Drift cafe never disappoints. Doggy friendly, lovely staff, amazing cakes, great menu - the best breakfast/brunches. Big free car park, right next to a gorgeous beach - what's not to love!

This is such a great spot for a stop off mid beach walk. It’s always busy but have never struggled to get a table and space available outside too. The cake selection is great and everything we’ve had has been fab, on our most recent visit we had Lemon Cake and Raspberry & White Chocolate - both fabulous.

A great beach front cafe. Dog friendly with treats for both humans and canines! Lovely selection for morning coffee, lunch or afternoon tea. Great place to warm up after a braving walk on the beach.
Parking: On street parking, attached lot and beach parking opposite

The Drift has expanded significantly since our last visit, early in 2023 more than doubling it's outside facilities.
Despite it being 2pm the inside café was , and so along with 4 or 5 other couples we sat outside on the wooden benches. We've had a lot of rain, and sadly the benches need revarnishing as they're very porous. It was like sitting on wet blotting paper.
We could have gone in the recently acquired double decker, but it is very basic, so we opted to stay outside. Lots of dogs and owners both inside and outside this is a truly 'dog friendly' café.
However, our coffees and warm cheese scones were brought out within 5 minutes, and despite warnings that anything from the kitchen had a 30 minute wait time our grandson's pulled pork toasted wrap was only 5 minutes behind the coffees.
Quality as always (We've been visiting for more than 10 years now) excellent, good honest, tasty offerings, at a reasonable price.
Despite wet seats we left well satisfied with our warming drinks and very satisfactory snack.
Parking: The café has it's own car park, and the free beach car park is just across the road. Both car parks were busy, but still had a few vacant spots.
Wheelchair accessibility: On the level, tables perhaps a little crowded, but clientele at the Drift are a friendly lot, so I wouldn't see accomodating a wheelchair or two being an issue

If you pull up and cars are parked on the road side and carpark there'll still be plenty of room to eat. There are lots of nooks to sit in. The owners have ordering and serving down to a fine art. All the tables are cleaned immediately.

Great experience today - it was really busy, approx 40min wait for food…but swift service had the food out within 20’minutes. Great service. And really polite staff. Hard working. Food and drinks were spot on.

A must visit spot for lunch if you are visiting Cresswell beach. Very friendly staff, an excellent menu, and dog friendly which is so important these days. No dogs inside unfortunately, but there is a large outdoor patio and a big marquee if the weather is not great. I can personally recommend the bacon, egg, black pudding and haggis sandwich, super tasty and it will fill you up. It does get busy and food can take up-to 30 minutes to arrive as it’s all made right there in the kitchen, but there is a big sign warning you of that when you order. Fortunately for me the latte arrived very quickly to keep me going. 😊. I will definitely be back next time I’m in the area.
Update: I have been back, a couple of times, still great. Also I discovered I could take my dog inside to order you just can’t sit in. But the marquee is dry and heated so no problem. Good to know if you are alone with a dog and wondering how to order, always a question on my mind.

Recently expanded but still great place right on the coast. Food is good, plentiful and reasonably priced. Very popular with the biking community but also has a good sized car park.
It’s a few minutes from Whitley Bay but the but extra time to get there won’t disappoint. I recommend a visit if in the area. I’ll be definitely going back.
